Our Ike Vacation

Despite all of the madness of preparing for Hurricane Ike, we had a nice vacation near Austin at Amber & Aaron's house. This was the second time that we have evacuated and stayed with them. We enjoyed the nice weather, took the kids to some of the local playplaces and tourist spots, and enjoyed wonderful dinners that Corry treated us to every night. The kids do great at their house and enjoyed playing with Baby Aydan, too.

We took the kids to Waterloo at Southfield Meadows (I think that's the name) and had burgers and then let them play out on the playground right behind the restaurant. This was our second time to this playground and it is so nice. I would love to have something like this with restuarants and shopping all right by the playground.

Autumn, our meateater, also had her very first hamburger. We have been trying to get her to try one forever because she loves all meat. She ordered it and we then spent about 30 minutes just getting her to try it. We told her to just try one bite and if she didn't like it she didn't have to eat it. She put one bite in her mouth and started smiling, she loved it and ate most of it! She is so stubborn and hardheaded (we have no idea where she gets that since neither Corry or myself are that way). ;)

The girls LOVED watching Amber give Aydan her bath- it was their highlight every night! They also loved playing with all of her toys when they took a bath.

We finally got a chance to go visit my college roommate, Gayla, and her husband and new baby boy. He was only 8 weeks old and still so tiny!

The girls spent some time swimming in the backyard at Amber & Aaron's...

Amber & Aaron's brand new chocolate lab named Russell...this is shortly after the kids threw water on him. It cooled him off so he liked it!

We took a trip to San Marcos' Wonderworld and rode the train around to see the animals...here we are waiting to load the little train...

Riding on the train...

The girls loved feeding the animals...

We also took the girls to Sewell Park for a swim in the river. They loved it! I forgot just how cold that water is but it is so refreshing!

I like this one of Shelby- she's giddy in the cold water!

They were so cold when they got out that they both huddled under Shelby's towel!

Overlooking the river on the bridge...

It was cool to take them to Sewell Park because we went there so many times in college. It really makes you see just how much life has changed when you see all of those college kids there and remember being one of them not that long ago.

I am glad you enjoyed your "hurrication" as they are calling it. Doesn't it seem like yesterday that YOU were the college student floating in the river... not a care in the world. Yeah, I feel old when I see things like that... *sigh*

Looks like the hurricane allowed you all to get some great (probably much needed) family time away. Wasn't it strange having the kiddos at Sewell? What did you guys think of Wonder World?
So neat to see Gayla married and with a new baby.
Glad to see you guys enjoyed your evacuation, but more importantly that you are all safe and that there was no major damage done to the house, store or boat- praise God!
