Back to School Germs

We caught 'em all this month. While I don't like for the girls to miss school, I do enjoy it when they get to stay home with Carly and me.

A day when Autumn stayed home sick.
Shelby & Carly both under the weather!

Shelby had an Upper GI Scope done to determine if she suffers from Acid Reflux (we have been treating it for a couple of years but never had formal testing done), to determine the severity and to see if any damage has been done, and to rule out other possibilities.  They also inserted a nasal probe that we had to leave in for 24 hours and return the next day to have removed.  It pinpointed exact moments that she refluxed.  They had to put her under for the scope procedure, which is always scary, but she did great.  She was also a trooper with the nasal probe but it really bugged her and she couldn't eat much and didn't even want to talk much.
Here she is getting to eat ice cream for dinner because it went down easily!

The results of the procedures indicated Acid Reflux but her esophagus looked great with no damage.  She refluxes most with meals and right after.  That information really helps because it explains why she often would stop eating after only a few bites of food.  The doctor prescribed her a little higher dosage of reflux meds and as long as she takes them consistently, she has no problems and eats so much better!  We were very happy with the results of the testing and just glad to know exactly what the problem is and how to treat it.
